I learnt to play at age 10 with Northlew and Ashbury Band, nr. Hatherleigh, Devon. I played with them until i was 16. Having joined the police I moved to Exeter and I thought my brass playing days were over.

However, in 1976 I became a member of the newly formed Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Band, with whom I played 2nd Cornet and Repiano before the bands disbandment in 2003.
A number of the bands ex players wished to continue, and quickly formed the Riviera Concert Band, 'RCB', which was based in torquay, and with whom I played Repiano until 2006. I left 'RCB' after finding the journey from Bodmin to Torquay (180 mile round trip) a bit too much!!

After this, I joined St Breward Silver Band, followed later by Camelford Town. I have been playing for both bands, and helping numerous others around the county ever since.

I started to play the cornet was I was aged 6 years, this was after I picked up my brothers Horn when we had left it out. I started my playing career with St Minver Band. While under the musical director Geoff Burton, I completed my grades 1-3 on Bb cornet.
2011 was my first residential course with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, which happens twice a year, and I have attended every course since that date. In 2013, I joined Indian Queens Band after depping for them at Bugle Band Contest. I was having private lessons at this time and gained Grade 5 Bb cornet.

The year after I joined St Austell Youth Band and was then asked to join the senior band. My first contest with them was First Section nationals in Cheltenham, 2014.
In 2017, I felt that I could no longer commit to St Austell Band due to college and work. Not long after I was then asked to play for St Breward Band at a concert in Newquay for the CBBA, 3 weeks before the concert I decided that I was going to learn the Soprano Cornet for the concert. I now play Sop and Cornet for the band when I am available and enjoying playing with the band.
